Art institutions across the United States are repressing pro-Palestinian artists. Mašina spoke with Elizabeth Larison, NCAC’s director of the Arts and Culture Advocacy Program, about the broader trends within the Art Censorship Index.
Last week, a spark caught ablaze at Volkswagen’s Tennessee plant as workers voted to unionize. This victory comes after months of agitation by United Auto Worker (UAW) organizers, as well as retaliatory attacks on such activity by Volkswagen. A local artist, Tabitha Arnold, created a tapestry that visually shows how the workers fanned the flame and ignited a fire within the plant.
Employees of Modern Gallery in Ljubljana sent a request to the Government of the Republic of Slovenia demanding for the gallery’s director, Aleš Vaupotič, to resign or be dismissed on the account of alleged negligence and other irregularities.

During the past weeks we have witnessed a continuity of possibly thoroughly premeditated attacks on artists in Serbia, provoked not exclusively by artwork, but also by the artists’ efforts to break the deadlock of problems concerning their social and labour status.
The events related to the violent interruption of the “Boys” (Momci) group exhibition, which was held in “Stara Kapetanija” gallery during the weekend as a part of the “New Age” festival, gained a new twist when the Ministry of Culture and Information published a statement in which it condemned violence against the exhibition, but also the exhibition itself. This prompted public reactions of a number of professional associations and cultural institutions, and a protest rally in support of the “Boys” group and the Stara Kapetanija.
After a two-months delay, the Spring Exhibition at the Art Pavilion “Cvijeta Zuzorić”, entitled “Where does the future begin?” has finally been opened.
